In the Earth realm (Kingdom of God on Earth), JESUS, after the Order of Melchizedek was Prophet, Priest, and King (Hebrews, chapter 7). Likewise, we, His believers are Prophets, Priests and Kings. And, we are mandated to perform His Works and Greater Works, because we believe on Him (John 14:12).
As Disciples of the Church, we represent the "priestly order". Priest were responsible for keeping the Tabernacle and serving God's people according to the Old Testament Law. Likewise, as Disciples in the Church we too are Priests, responsible for the up-building of the Kingdom of God on earth, and serving God's people according to New Testament mandates. As Disciples of Christ (Priests), we connect a dying world to the "Bridge" between God and mankind, which is Christ.
Prophets in the Church, represent God's divine will (His mouthpiece) for the Body. They bring correction (tear-down) when it is needed, and they edify (build-up) when it is needed. Just as the Prophets of old "cried loud and spared not", so do modern day Prophets. They receive revelation from God through visions and dreams, and set the House in order (Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17).
The Apostles of the Church, were and are responsible for building foundations (people, churches) that can be added to, Jesus being the Chief Corner Stone (Ephesians 2:20). They, and the rest of the five-fold, are a ruling-fold (Kings), representing Authority (Ephesians 4:11). They establish God's Kingdom on Earth through the Holy Spirit until Jesus comes to take His rightful place as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
